History
of Wing Chun

Centuries ago, an extraordinary art form arose in China that uniquely combines health, martial arts, meditation, and philosophy of life: Wing Chun.

Over generations, master craftsmen have researched, developed, and refined this system. That’s why it remained a closely guarded secret, preserved by only a few high-ranking masters who protected this teaching and strictly limited its dissemination. To understand its significance today, some background knowledge is needed: In a time constantly marked by wars and conflicts, learning martial arts was a vital necessity – it had nothing to do with sport. Thus, highly secretive but extremely effective fighting methods emerged, encompassing both physical health and mental development through meditation, and focused solely on victory in combat.

Today, the changes in martial arts are almost impossible to stop. The intensity, difficulty, and purpose of the exercises are constantly being reduced to adapt them to a hectic and often superficial modern lifestyle.

For this reason, a Wing Chun grandmaster named Dr. Leung Jang (1826–1901), who had completely mastered the system, controlled its dissemination and kept it as far from the public eye as possible. This allowed him to preserve its authenticity – even though the system largely faded into obscurity within society. For a long time, most of the exercises were reserved exclusively for the master.

Unfortunately, the various Wing Chun lineages have drifted further and further apart over time.

This Splitting of the Wing Chun system. This led to considerable misunderstandings about this martial art. Today, the public mostly prefers the heavily promoted (Ip Man) Wing Chun teachings. However, some original Wing Chun systems remained hidden and largely inaccessible for a long time.

At Explosive Wing Chun In keeping with the teachings of the old masters, we impart an independent, energy-based, and authentic fighting system. The energetic aspect of the theory, in particular, is unique in Europe and rarely found in this form. The essence of Tai Chi Chuan, Xing Yi Chuan and Bagua Zhang. This manifests itself in an extremely effective symbiosis and enables practitioners to achieve optimal self-defense in any dangerous situation.

The Explosives Wing Chun Varna School was created in December 2022 by students of the Shaolin school in Munich (Germany) of the masters Onder and Tanner Kaya. Shortly after its opening, the school filled with inquisitive students – children and adults alike – seeking intellectual, physical, mental and spiritual development.

Tai Chi Chuan

Tai Chi Chuan (as well as before the Great Chinese Revolution) was secretly passed down from master to student and never taught publicly. Therefore, the Tai Chi Chuan that is widespread today is unfortunately…no longer the original Tai Chi Chuan.

The true art of Tai Chi Chuan reveals a path that leads not only to perfection, but also to physical, mental and spiritual health.

The wise masters of Tai Chi Chuan have always known that in combat soft approaches are better than hard ones, that circular movements are tactically clever and that it is important to consider both the opponent’s tactics as well as to recognize his movements.

In the West, Tai Chi Chuan is known primarily for its graceful, slow, calm and flowing movements. But this secret teaching is the most highly developed system of all martial arts and was even used in ancient China for the protection of the Emperor.
When Tai Chi Chuan is practiced as a health method, the movements are slow, rhythmic, and encompass the entire body. The mind remains focused throughout the entire exercise. Focused, collected and calm.

„If you want to develop physical strength, protect your health and prolong your life, then practice Tai Chi Chuan regularly.“, say the Taoist masters.

Tai Chi Chuan combines great Chinese knowledge – it unites health, martial arts, meditation, philosophy, Taoism and much more. At the same time, it harmonizes body, mind and soul. It regulates breathing, strengthens the heart, circulatory and nervous systems, and quickly provides good mood, improved wellbeing, relaxation and concentration. These positive health effects have already been confirmed in many scientific studies.

Tai Chi Chuan can therefore be used for disease prevention, treatment of specific conditions, as well as supportive exercise for recovery.

Bagua Zhang

Another essential component of authentic Wing Chun training is the Bagua Zhang System, which, however, due to its complexity, can only be taught at an advanced stage.

Bagua Zhang symbolizes eight directions, each of which reflects a typical aspect, and is thus based on the Taoist classic I Ging (The book of change). The typical characteristics of Bagua Zhang are therefore eight steps, forming a circle. Each step opens up the possibility of a sudden change of direction.

The beautiful hand movements of Bagua Zhang are a feast for the eyes. When executed slowly, they appear like passing clouds, but in combat they can crash over an opponent like the powerful element of water.

These eight circular steps and hand movements are found in constantly changing, endless movement. Bagua Zhang basically means to…to move in a circle, while the hands circle in different directions. Many spiral movements form the basis of this martial art; the Laws of Nature. These are also among their most important principles. Everything between heaven and earth is subject to constant change.

„Defend yourself without aiming directly at the opponent.“

„Be like flowing water”

„Attack sharply, as if you were cutting bamboo.“

These are the basic principles of this fascinating teaching. As in Tai Chi Chuan and Xing Yi Chuan, the practitioner is in constant movement and change. This constant movement forms the basis of the technique. There is no stagnation, because stagnation is doomed to failure.

Traditionally, three elements determined victory or defeat in combat:

  • Speed
  • Energy
  • Technology

Contrary to the widespread assumption that force and mass are the most important factors, here… Speed comes first. This allows you to retreat more quickly or penetrate your opponent’s defenses more rapidly. The so-called external styles, in particular, focus primarily on body structure, muscle strength, and external Qi Gong.

However, using Bagua Zhang as a martial art requires not only mastery of the form, but also a deeper understanding of the Taoist philosophy, as they are in I Ging. This martial art is depicted extraordinarily complex and profound.

Xing Yi Chuan

Another fascinating element from which the classical Wing Chun Chuan teachings originally emerged – alongside the teachings of Tai Chi Chuan and Bagua Zhang – is the uncompromising Xing Yi Chuan. According to tradition, Xing Yi Chuan stands in its purest form at the forefront of martial arts. Among the inner arts, it undoubtedly possesses the fastest and most direct movements in their application in combat.

Xing Yi Chuan has an extremely active nature. Each technique is combined with spiral rotations and breathing exercises combined so that the resulting energy can erupt powerfully.

Particularly muscles, bones and tendons are built up by this system, it promotes and strengthens them energetically in an extraordinary way.

In the developmental stages of this doctrine, the primary goal is a healthy body, that secondary goal is the protection of this body and the tertiary goal – the unfolding and development of the body to expand understanding and perception. Xing Yi Chuan is based on the understanding and application of five phases of transformation, which is why in-depth knowledge in both combat and medical fields, and their integration into everyday life, is essential.

Martial arts and health

Health and martial arts are inextricably linked in ancient Chinese teachings. True striving places the “struggle with oneself” at its center – the effort to overcome one’s own mistakes and oversights in order to grow and mature ethically and spiritually.

Traditional Chinese medicine assumes that diseases are caused by blockages in the human energy system. These problems arise, however, if we allow the internal energy (Chi), as taught in Explosive Wing Chun, to flow freely through the meridians (energy channels), health can improve, preserved into old age remain. When a person has a genuine desire to familiarize themselves with the theory and practice of this worldview, many positive results become apparent in their life mental, physical and health development.

A large part of the healing process relies on the fact that the internal energy (Chi) on the electromagnetic balance of the human body. Because every health-promoting change also affects the electrical and biochemical state of the body. Such processes are triggered by electrical impulses that are transmitted via the nervous system and ultimately lead to physiologically controlled reactions in the target organ.

The influence of Chi in the Return of impaired bodily functions restoring a “normal state” by regulating the signals constantly sent throughout the body is extremely important – and should not be underestimated.
